The First Ladies

Who are the First Ladies? What does that even mean?

When I first spoke to Mandy about this seedling of an idea, to start photographing women…to mine out that nugget of truth and beauty and strength and power…she was completely on board. She knew women, women who would for sure be on board with the idea and the mission. So she sent out some feelers, we had a zoom call and before I knew it, I was out in the desert with these lovely ladies creating some magic.

My vision was simply to capture these women, each one diverse and unique in her own right, and uncover that special something that makes them…well, them.

So these women (Mandy, Krystal, Heather, Brittany, Amy, & DJ) are my First Ladies. The first ones to help me on my creative journey. They were the ones who allowed me to do whatever I wanted, to direct them however I pleased. They were willing to stand barefoot next to cactus and wade waist deep in the water to get the absolute perfect shot. They gave me their hearts, and their joy, and their passion. And for that I will forever be grateful!

What I learned through this little creative experiment is that I really love working with women! I love listening to their stories and digging deep into the unsaid spaces. I love showcasing their beauty and their strength in it’s many facets. So my brain is thinking, and I’m turning over some new ideas like a smooth stone in my hand.

And to my First Ladies…thank you, thank you for helping me to mine out my own passion and strength. This session was my joy!
