Pivot

This is a term I’m very familiar with. Growing up as a dancer I learned countless combinations built around this one move. Pivot, a change in direction. This whole season of my life has seemed like one endless pivot. We moved from East Coast to West Coast. We went from more rural to urban living. From a colder climate to a much hotter one…much much hotter! It’s for sure a season of change, it should be no surprise that my business is undergoing a pivot of it’s own.

Like many of you I’m a podcast lover. Lately I have been binging the Book More Clients Photography podcast (hosted by Brooke Jefferson) and she talks a lot about finding your niche. Do the thing that brings you the most joy, the one thing that lights you up during a session. Find that and do that exclusively, go all in, become the “go to” in that area. This is terrifying, because why would I turn away potential clients that want something else? It’s also extremely freeing, because if my focus is my joy then photographing in that specialty would just be an overflow of that joy.

Time to pivot…

I’ve done quite a few genres over the last year and a bit. There were a few engagements, a vow renewal, some couples and a few families. I have loved working with all of these people, but it wasn’t until I came here to Arizona that I found what really set me on fire.

FEMALES…I hesitate to say women because I take just as much joy in working with girls as well. So that’s it…all shapes and sizes, all ages and stages, all cultural backgrounds.

What exactly does that look like you ask??? I would LOVE to share that with you.

It looks like lifestyle headshots for women in business. It looks like custom crafted photo shoots for women who want to celebrate something special, commemorate a milestone, or just document a time in their life when. It’s women wanting to capture all of the beauty and difficulty wrapped within pregnancy. It’s mother and daughter photo shoots. It’s empowering women by telling their stories, sharing their joys and accomplishments, and coaxing out that nugget of who they really are through my camera lens. It’s gathering groups of women who want to celebrate friendship and cheer each other on. It’s photographing women and girls and filling them full of words of affirmation and strength, words to let them know they are valuable and worthy and that their identity is not wrapped up in their shell and that they are significant as image bearers.

This is what I want to do, what brings me the most joy! So…I’m gonna do it!

I hope you’ll join me on this journey. I hope you’ll consider me to commemorate something special in your life. Let’s get together and create something truly memorable!

All my love,
