I typically ask parents to make sure the temperature inside the house is a little higher than normal. If we happen to strip baby down to her diaper then they’re less likely to shiver if we’ve got a little warmth in the room. In-home sessions also give parents the option to not have to lug diaper bags and strollers into a studio or even out on location. Win-win!

My client’s home for my most recent in-home newborn session was a photographer’s dream! Neutral tones, pops of color, a wall of plants (oh how I love the green), a safari themed nursery, natural light galore…we had so many spots to choose from…spoiler alert, I chose them all.

Side Note: You don’t have to have a Pinterest worthy home. It doesn’t have to be fully cleaned even. So NO pressure! But that’s a separate blog post :)

Personal Touches

This couple had a few things that I would say made their home unique and personal only to them. One, they had a beautiful wall full of plants. They have a green thumb for sure and it gave some of our photos a bit of a nursery feel. Second, this couple are avid travelers and they had photos of all of their world adventures beautifully displayed throughout their home. The photos certainly made for good conversation starters and got their attention off of me and onto each other and their sweet babe.

Siblings, Grandparents, Pets

For families with older siblings or pets, having newborn photos at home makes it easier to include them in the session. Siblings can feel more at ease and excited in their familiar environment, making for heartwarming sibling interactions and adorable moments. The family pet can also be part of the photo shoot, making it a truly inclusive and memorable experience for everyone involved. Another bonus is having grandparents on hand to not only be in the photos but to keep other kiddos content and distracted while we snap pics of mom, dad and new baby.
